Free Stall Dairy Facility with Milking Parlour

The Ward Family
Hickson, Ontario

Completed in the fall of 2011, this four-row free stall dairy facility houses 146 sand-bedded stalls with pack area for the close-up and special needs cows. The free stall barn is connected to the milking centre via a forty foot wide link where sick and sort pens are located with the vet room. The milking centre includes a double twelve parallel parlour and subway. A change room, break room and office are also situated near the parlour for convenience. A concrete gutter at the end of the free stall barn transfers manure directly to the round storage. A concrete storage tank collects washwater from the holding area to help flush the manure transfer gutter when required. A sand storage building is attached to the free stall barn for filling the stalls.
