About Us

Stonecrest Engineering provides professional engineering services which cater specifically to the agricultural industry. Our staff works with farm business owners and/or their builders to develop practical, environmentally sound site plans and on-farm structures that address current and future regulations.

Stonecrest Engineering is dedicated to engineering excellence for the agricultural industry. Our designs can be found all across Canada and the United States, and have recently been introduced into Eastern Europe.

Our engineering experience spans the entire agricultural industry, including: dairy, swine, poultry, beef, duck, goat, horse and sheep facilities as well as accessory buildings. Stonecrest Engineering works closely with our clients, to ensure that our drawings are structurally sound, and that layout accommodates animal traffic flow and comfort. We pride ourselves so that our clients experience successful projects that work for them today and in the future.

Management

Wayne Blenkhorn, P.Eng., President

Wayne is a graduate of McGill University in Agricultural Engineering and later returned there to gain a Master’s in Agricultural Engineering and complete his studies in Mechanical Engineering.

Following graduation, Wayne joined Ontario's OMAFRA organization at Kemptville Agricultural College where he taught Engineering courses and assisted in college research and design projects.

Wayne joined a worldwide ventilation company—Nordisk Ventilator, with head quarters in Denmark, during the 70’s. Later, he acquired their Canadian subsidiary which specialized in ventilation systems dedicated to the agricultural market.

For the next decade Wayne switched the product line from largely powered systems to energy saving natural ventilation systems. Being an owner and operator of his own family hog farm during this period permitted contribution of some practical experience and observations to the design process.

Today, Wayne is President of Faromor Ltd, a Stonecrest Engineering sister company, and continues to support the development and marketing of their ventilation products throughout North America, Eastern & Western Europe, and Asia

Steve Miller, P.Eng., V.P. & General Manager

Steve joined Stonecrest Engineering in 2000 and is a graduate of Civil Engineering at the University of Waterloo. His previous experience included technical writing for an engineering software firm and performing computer modeling simulations for an energy conservation consulting company.

Steve has proven the ability to lead Stonecrest Engineering during the past 8 years with steady and continued growth of business supported by a loyal following of farm owners and their progressive Ag. Builders. Steve provides the professional engineering and technical guidance needed to support our strong contingent of capable design persons. His responsibility includes overseeing the daily operations of Stonecrest and keeping his staff informed of continued changing regulations that impact the farming industry.

Rob Pol, Senior Dairy Designer

Rob is a graduate of Sheridan College in Brampton, Ontario and is our most experienced dairy design specialist. Rob joined Stonecrest in 1999 and immediately applied his extensive knowledge of dairy operations and construction to our projects. Raised on a local dairy farm and having family members heavily involved in construction has given Rob the background to design practical dairy facilities to suit our customers.

In addition to his lead role in dairy design Rob is available to other staff members to assist them in making construction or dairy planning decisions.

Tammy Kollman, Project Designer

Tammy is a graduate of Fanshawe College in London, Ontario. Tammy has quickly become our in-house expert on poultry facilities and accessory structures. Her previous experience as a computer support consultant for a building design software firm has proven valuable in supporting and trouble shooting our IT within the company.

Tammy has become a valuable asset to Steve by capably sharing some of the administrative duties along with her design work on Coverall & traditional structures. Tammy demonstrates her willingness to quickly embrace new challenges by taking an active role in SE’s exploration of ‘on farm’ energy enterprises and the green powering of client farming operations.

Bram Van Den Heuvel, Project Designer/Site Inspections

Bram joined Stonecrest Engineering in 2005 after graduating from Conestoga College in Kitchener, Ontario. Bram was raised on a family poultry operation.

Following graduation and joining SE we quickly decided that Bram was our staff member with most current Building Code knowledge. He was delegated the responsibility of our on site construction inspections and this occupies, at least, 50% of his time and continues to grow.

Bram also is actively involved in designing various agricultural buildings when not out on a construction site. Additionally, Bram is our in house expert for rendering and animation and this continues to play a growing role in our ability to assist clients to present projects to other business partners such as banks or permitting authorities.

Kate Mc Gregor , Project Designer

Kate is a graduate of Conestogo College in Kitchener and our newest Cad design staff member. Kate was raised on a dairy farm and this is immediately apparent from her confidence and ability in creating a dairy project design. She is a self start individual who has demonstrated her ability to briefly dialogue with a client and turn their comments into an accurate and detailed facility plan.

Joan Veldman, Receptionist

Joan, with the assistance of other front office staff, is responsible for the reception function of both Stonecrest Engineering and sister company Faromor Ltd.

Joan has proven to be a real asset in developing our media and web information. Her creativity and organizational skills are exceptional and much appreciated by all of us who work with her.

Don Veale

Don is controller for both Stonecrest Engineering and their sister company Faromor Ltd. and has ably managed all of the bookkeeping and accounting functions since 2001. Don has a B.Sc. from the University of Guelph and is working on his CGA designation.
